Job Opening cod. 12544 CMCC Position Post-Doctoral Associate on Climate Predictability (Deadline: September 30th, 2024) ABOUT US The CMCC Foundation is a scientific research center on climate change and its interactions with the environment, society, the world of business, and policymakers. Our work aims to stimulate sustainable growth, protect the environment, and develop strategies for the adaptation and mitigation of climate change. WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR Our Institute for Earth System Predictions (IESP) is hiring a talented, motivated and proactive post-doctoral associate to work in the Climate Variability and Predictions division in the framework of the ASPECT ( A daptation-oriented S eamless P redictions of E uropean C lima T e) Horizon Europe project (2023–2027). Workplace location: Bologna , Italy. ROLE The successful applicant will support the group operations conducing research on climate predictability and assisting with the production and evaluation of climate forecasts. According to expertise and skills, maintaining a focus on research, or on operational activities may be considered. RESPONSIBILITIES The Post-Doctoral Associate will be expected to: Conduct research on model deficiencies and the origins of seasonal-to-decadal predictability, specifically regarding the signal-to-noise problem and the impact of systematic model biases, with a focus on extratropical air‒sea interaction processes and climatic extremes. Become part of the Climate Variability and Predictions (CLIVAP) division and assist with the production of climate predictions of different forecast horizons contributing to high-impact publications. REQUIREMENTS The desired qualifications include: a PhD in climate sciences or related subjects; experience with analysing climate model output; experience with Python and shell scripting in Unix; a very good knowledge of the English language; publications demonstrating quality research; experience with running climate models. DURATION, COMPENSATION & BENEFITS The appointment period will be initially of two (2) years starting no later than July 2024 , renewable for one (1) more year pending a positive evaluation. The gross annual salary range is from 35.000 to 45.000 Euros , comprehensive of benefits , depending on qualification and working experience. Some fiscal benefits could be applied for repatriated workers or foreign researchers/professors, having the requirements defined by Dlgs 147/2015 (for repatriates) or Dl 78/2010 (for foreigners).
